Day 1: Start Strong

Today has been a great 1st day! We enjoyed sleeping in late which for us is a once-in-a-lifetime thing. So refreshing!

Our first trip of the new year to the grocery store was a success. After carefully making our list, gathering coupons, and making some coffee to go, we set on our way. One hour and $120 later we were armed with fresh meats, cheeses, veggies and a few sundries. I am so happy I was able to stick to my resolve of not buying any processed junk. Normally, dear hubby and I go to the store with a list and come home with twice as much, most of which is junk! Sticking to our new, healthy list is certainly not easy. We have two 17-year olds and one three year old at home. Needless to say, they are addicted to sugar, caffeine, carbs, and any kind of processed junk (not for my lack of trying to keep them healthy).

Lunch was a nice, hot bowl of New Year’s day Black Eyed Peas with ham and cornbread. We even had salad with a little shredded cabbage. Yumm-o. Our house is clean, we stayed out of the department stores, and enjoyed quiet family time. We even squeezed in a movie. Overall, today was great. We started strong and we finished strong. Tomorrow is a day of projects – hopefully. Who knows, maybe I’ll continue to rest and enjoy my vacation.
